Natural stone washbasin care
Natural stone is a durable material, but its surface requires gentle care. Marble and onyx are particularly sensitive to acids.
Daily care
Clean the washbasin with warm water, a soft cloth, or a non-abrasive sponge. For a more thorough cleaning, choose a pH-neutral cleaner designed for natural stone.
After cleaning, rinse the surface well with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth. This will reduce soap and limescale buildup. If your home has hard water, we recommend wiping away any remaining droplets after each use.
For textured or hard-to-reach areas, a soft-bristled brush can be used.
What not to use
Do not clean natural stone with:
- vinegar, citric acid, or other acidic products;
- standard limescale, bathroom, toilet, tile, or grout cleaners;
- bleach, solvents, or strong chemical agents;
- baking soda, scouring powders, or abrasive cleaners;
- coarse, melamine, or metal sponges.
These products can scratch, etch, or irreversibly alter the stone surface.
Stains and cosmetic products
Immediately wash off hair dye, self-tanning products, nail polish, perfume, oils, and other intensely staining or chemical products. Do not allow them to dry on the stone.
If a stain appears, do not scrub it vigorously or try to remove it with random household products. First, clean the surface with a pH-neutral cleaner.
If the stain persists, contact a specialized retailer that sells natural stone care products. Inform the consultant of the type of stone and, if possible, provide a photo of the stain – this will help in selecting the appropriate product.
Limescale
Do not use vinegar, citric acid, or standard limescale removers to remove limescale. Choose only a non-acidic product that the manufacturer clearly specifies as suitable for your specific type of natural stone.
Sealing
Sealing increases the stone's resistance to moisture and stains, but it does not make it completely impervious. The frequency of reapplying protection depends on the type of stone, the intensity of use, and the product chosen.
If water begins to absorb quickly into the dry surface and darkens it, it may be time to reapply the sealer. Use only a sealer suitable for your specific type of stone and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Before using a new product, first test it on a small, less visible area. If you are not sure whether a product is suitable for your washbasin, consult a specialist at a natural stone care product store.
